Frequently Ask Questions
We feel that there is an opportunity and a need for a value based orthopedic implant company. We realize that there are a significant number of “stable” technologies, implants and instruments, that have far passed their value as intellectual properties and deserved to become value based offers. Our goal is to take these technologies and provide them to the end user with as much cost removed as possible.
Well, the medical industry is one of the few areas of business that prices do not regularly decrease as the technology becomes more stable. Since 1998, the price for computer equipment has decreased by 90%. Healthcare rarely experiences this type of innovation because we have spent most of our time trying to maximize third party reimbursement due to the fact that 90% of our bills are paid by third party payers. We have never had to be responsive to the true consumer, the patient. In the 10% of the market that patients actually pay their bills, prices have responded in a typical free market pattern. These areas include walk-in clinics, plastic surgery, mail order pharmacy and Lasik eye surgery. We feel that fundamental changes have occurred in medicine that will affect our survival if we do not adapt.
RoG is an EcoOrthoTM company. Our goal is to provide ecological and economical solutions to the orthopedic community. We realize that medcine is one of the great polluters and much of this is due to the single use, disposable mentality. Our goal is to utilize reusable inserters that will remove as much as 95% of the waste in anchors. This will also allow us to meet our second mission, economical pricing. We believe that we can lower costs by as much as 70%.
One is by our environmentally conscious approach. Second, we will utilize stable technologies that have exhausted their intellectual mark-up. Third, and most importantly, we propose to connect the manufacturer directly to the hospital or surgery center. By removing the parent company with all their management overhead, the distributer and the sales rep; we are able to provide an equivalent product at up to 70% off retail pricing.
Our goal is to return to the hospital what they used to manage themselves but gave away to the industry long ago. The industry has created a sense of dependence on the sales rep model by allowing them to control inventory and equipment via a consignment model. When the hospital or surgery center once again becomes an owner, they will have control and be able to benefit from this model. Once the sales rep is removed with all their costs, the hospital can begin to look at implants from a cost/quality perspective, and reap the benefits.
Our initial entry into the market will be with a shoulder line. We will offer a full but yet streamlined set of instruments that will provide quality at a reasonable price. We will also offer a PEEK 5.5mm rotator cuff anchor, knotless anchor and a 2.9mm PEEK anchor. These implants will all be offered at least 70% cheaper than the typical alternative. Our goal is to follow with a knee line, a thermal device, reusable shavers and a video tower.
